We’re aware that customers using Samsung android devices may be getting a ‘proxy error’ when trying to unblock US Netflix. 

We’ve looked into this, and it appears that since Marshmallow 6.0.1 , something is running in the background on this device, which is logging your location (even when location services are disabled) and passing this to Netflix. 

22/12/16 – FIXED – We can confirm that this issue can be resolved by installing OpenVPN on your device.

Firstly, ensure that you are using L2TP VPN type. If you are using PPTP, please setup a new L2TP client using this guide.

If you are getting a Netflix proxy error, ensure that you have the following entered in the ‘DNS Servers’ box (under ‘show advanced options).  8.8.8.8

If you are unable to connect using Android 6 or above:

1. Tap the “Settings” icon next to your VPN profile. Select “Show advanced options” and scroll down to the bottom. If the option “Backward compatible mode” exists, enable it and reconnect the VPN.

Launch the Settings application.

Tap More… in the Wireless & Networks section.

Tap VPN.

Tap Add VPN Profile or the + icon at top-right of screen.

Enter anything you like in the Name field. (like ‘my vanishedvpn US server’)

Select L2TP/IPsec PSK in the Type drop-down menu.

In the servername field, enter one of the following (depending on what content you’re trying to access)

Skip the L2TP secret  & IPSec Identifier fields. These aren’t required

In the IPsec pre-shared key field, enter:         happiness

tick the ‘show advanced options’ box

In the ‘DNS servers’ field, enter:                8.8.8.8

Tap Save.

Tap the new VPN connection.

Enter Your VPN Username in the Username field.

Enter Your VPN Password in the Password field.

Check the Save account information checkbox.

Tap Connect.

**Note – ALL CREDENTIALS ARE CASE SENSITIVE AND MUST BE ENTERED EXACTLY AS THEY ARE ON THE WELCOME EMAIL THAT YOU RECEIVED

Installing the Vanished VPN app on your android device is the quickest and easiest way to secure your device.

First, search for ‘Vanished VPN’ in the Google play store, or follow this link.

Download and Install the App

Once installed, Open the App, and skip through the initial screens.

Once you come to the main screen of the app, click the location that you want to connect to (ie USA if you want to unblock USA Netflix).

Then click the Vanished VPN logo in the middle of the screen to connect.
